That I’m the first? nahhh… but anyway, here’s some late night pink for the fans …

Ca va, mon ami? Nice color cluster. I`ve noticed a lot of flowers at your place. Some I wish I had.
Merci bien, mon vieux … I’m always happy to share seeds and plants of those who do well here if you’re ever interested. That particular phlox was a start from a friend’s garden in the neighborhood, and though it usually blooms in late May, it decided to wait till mid-July this year for some reason.
If there’s something you reallly like, ask if I have seeds or can get them … I think the sea holly will be producing an overabundance of seeds this year, as we gave away a couple dozen plants that came up from last year….
issue, I’d be shipping you all sorts of stuff! Oh, and btw, the daturas are blooming right now… all volunteers and not exactly where we want them, but they’ve started, so we’re leaving them alone for now (except for those nasty purple ones I pull all the time). I’ll try to get some nice shots of them for you soon….
How’s your tomato doing?
and I think it will probably be ready in 1-2 more days, and there’s another right behind it. This will likely be the earliest I’ve gotten tomatoes in a few years, but given the heat and humidity lately, they’re really happy. Unlike the rest of us with this weather…
Lovely phlox … from tonight? I was taking some of mine tonight too … 🙂
Awww… but yes, these are from tonight. I filled up the card with some really good and not so good shots. And I don’t think I’d ever noticed the fragrance of phlox before tonight when I was getting a snoot full of it while taking these. It’s a nice fragrance! This plant took forever to bloom but it’s lovely right now in with the rudbeckias like this one…

I’m trying to upload a pic to the blog tonight but it’s going slow … 🙂
This is a great shot … really shows off the colour well against the green.
Sorry to hear that’s going slow… believe it or not my dial up is rather peppy tonight wrt uploading, so I got a lot done. Lots more where these came from, hehe. Oh, and did you figure out what the Olivia flower is yet?
I’ll collapse in utter amazement if you haven’t already nailed that one… since the leaves remind me so much of the the Maple Leafs for some odd reason.
You’re safe … no collapsing tonight. 🙂 I really love the colour of that bud … What do the inner bits look like — are they a delicate shade or darker?
Here`s a twenty year warp of a warped mind.http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/1677/slingertoharbingerej6.jpg
though I could do without the gun … but that’s just me, gun weenie. Cool pic as always though, Knucklehead!
Very distinguished looking … but I’m a gun weenie as well. 🙂
The guns have been more of a conversation starter & therefore peacemakers than not. The way they`re positioned gets a lot of comments or questions. They have never been used in anger or in violence.
I saw a guy with a bicycle who seemed real nice. Then he proceeded to bash someones head in with it. Not a nice guy, but he had no guns.
The photo is from Calico, a gold mine that had a Chinatown, [yes they were abused]. It`s on the edge of the desert in California. Life was really hell there, from how much I saw of the town. The strange green rocks they kept throwing ou,t to find the gold, turned out to be silver ore. This was discovered after many had spent the last of their money & had gone broke.
It’s just that I’ve never been around them so I’m a weenie … as IVG said. 🙂
And just for the record; not a “gun weenie” here. I’m more of a “people weenie.”
That is referenced to fkd up people in possession of guns, knives, tire irons, baseball bats, hatchets… being the problem, at least in my mind.
I tend to prefer a rifle to dispatch rabid skunks out here in the rural areas of ND vs. the other choices as designated above.
🙂
For those not afraid of novelty. Here`s a 3D shot that anyone can do very easily.
With this pic in front of you, cross your eyes to have a picture materialize in the center of the two. I usually put a finger up about12″ away from the picture to enable my eyes to cross. The center pic will be in amazing 3D.
It might be difficult to see at first but once you see it, it will amaze you & will be easier to have reoccur.

First time I’ve ever done the old antique stereoscope effect on a CRT!! Super! Thanks! I’ll pass that one along.
What did you do?
I sort of got it to work, but my eyes are tired, so will try when they are fresher. 3D or not, it’s a beautiful shot of that aquarium!
I’ll have to try it again …
I downloaded to my picture file.
Then brought it up to full screen view, so just a black background.
Then, my eye balls are about 36 inches from the screen, which is my normal viewing distance. (I’m somewhat farsighted these days. [another clue!])
Then I let my eyes cross. Look at the tip of your nose like you did when you were a kid and making funny faces, then let your vision stretch out to the screen.
I saw three separate images and focused on the middle one, which with the more you focus the more 3d you get.
Good luck.
I downloaded and made it full screen and then did what you said about the end of the nose … thx NDD
That’s COOL knuckle!
Like what would one of your flower shots look like if ya took two shots, one from slightly right, one from slightly left, then reversed 2 and 1 to 1 and 2, we could see one of your flowers in 3d, eh?
egg zactly
modern stereoscope
But it does make one start thinking of possibles … 🙂
So when are you getting the D70s?
We’re are seriously thinking about it… just a matter of time, and checking the final tally of the deck project bills to see what’s left in the kitty.
Did ya see this link? didn’t want you to miss it.
modern stereoscope
To peruse when I’m fully awake … 🙂
Thanks for the link to the stereomabob thing. I`m going to build my own if I can figure out the proper angles. I play with lasers & prisms in my [spare time].
Here`s one I just did quickly from a Hibiscus that just opened this morning. The distance off centerline is a ratio to the distance from the subject. I`m going to go out & take a view shot instead of a close-up, & see what happens.

It`s definitley a trip when you see it isn`t it. I saw one on a guy`s website & studied it for a few mins. I figured I knew how it was done so I took two shots reversed them & voila. I surprised the cr.p out of myself.
Here`s a quick little schematic of how to do it. You can do any subject. With my pix, it would have been nice to have two cameras, so the fish would be taken similtaneously. Olivia, have the person who sees it tell you how, that way I can`t mess it up, seeing as I have my own way of seeing it.

PRETTY DARN TRIPPY NO?
I`m really glad you can see it. When nobody sees, it all they see is me, the idiot. HAHARAHA
camera lens position, laterally, from shot 1 to shot 2? Or doesn’t it make a difference.
The drawing is pretty poor. I shot from let`s say 3 ft. from the tank. 1st shot maybe a foot off center angled to take the whole tank. 2nd shot, I tried to position myself the same distance from the centerline as the first, & the same distance from the tank.
Both shooting positions should be symetrical, but I just eyeballed it, & it obviously works.
I`ll make some up tomorrow in the gardens here & post them tomorrow.
I sure am glad you see it. Whooeee.
Here`s a reg. shot of my girls. They`re doing great.

That sounds like a big job knuckle!
No, I finally got the two thousand I ordered.
It`s funny when people ask where I get dead ants. I tell them they`re just sleeping. When they want to watch the lizards feed, the ants start to miraculously run around. Thinking I was kidding when I`d said they were sleeping, they weren`t ready to see them alive.
I ask them where they think ants go in the winter up in Canada.
Basically, I just keep them in the fridge where they think it`s winter.
For long term storage I`d put them in the freezer. Learn & Live.
These are for your fancy.

Do you ever get back here to visit?
Here`s a quick 3D I just did hand held. I`ll experiment a little tomorrow, & hopefully give you a clearer idea of distance from subject against angle from centerline.
No, not really. My family is pretty spread out. Although we always keep in touch, it`s usually in international calls. A younger brother is in New Caledonia, although he spent most of his working life in Africa. My older brother is in Tunis for another couple of years. Another brother in Alberta, A sister in Montreal, a sister in Dundas, & I might have settled down for a while. I`ll get a pic of the wild bunch.

But I’m so sleepy it could be that!
I’m going to bed now knuckle … but I’ll check back here tomorrow in case you put up any more photos or links.
Have a good night and a good day too … 🙂
If you count Disco Belle hibiscus, which I was amazed to see had 7 blooms on it today… and just a few days ago these were budding buds. Pity they only last but one day, then drop off … but they’re so floriferous that you can count on more and more and more until they poop out sometime in late August! Can’t recommend Hibiscus moscheutos enough, but that’s just me. These flowers are about the size of dinner plates, btw… and these are the small ones… more to come…

As you can see, the poppies are way done now. Time to pull em up and scatter the seed from the ripe pods….
Those are stunning … dinner plates you say! Wow!
And I like the look of those poppy seedheads … they are such unique plants.
eh? Well, you should!! They’re hardy up to zone 4 or so, depending on the variety, and they could hardly be easier to grow, despite their delicate looks. They sneer at heat and humidity and drought, and though they are slow to wake up in the spring, they grow like crazy once they break dormancy.
One even sported for me in the back, but it hasn’t bloomed yet, but you’ll see it when it does… a red crossed with a pink and produced an odd plum color, which I now see advertised as “Plum Crazy” in the catalogues. I had it first, and it did it all on its own, lol!
I saw some in the garden store a while back, and thought it was odd … I’ve never even thought of growing them here, and I’m not really sure why that is.
You should really consider some for your garden … they’re really low maintenance (except for having to stake some of the taller varieties), they bloom like crazy and everyone always wants to know what they are, due to their dramatic size. Honestly, the most you have to do for them is cut the dead stalks back in early spring and wait for them to wake up (which can take a while, everyone gets sooo impatient for them). They like cold winters, too. Can’t say enough great things about the mallows… as you know, we love them here and have many kinds around the place….
B/c they look really spectacular … 🙂
I just popped up the b post … pink phlox redux … LOL
I think I’m going to hit the hay now … I’m having trouble keeping my eyes open.
It was great to see all your flowers tonight — been missing those. And even better to see you again! 🙂
Take care and have a good sleep w/ the furry creatures!
Good night NDD and knuckle and d if you’re still around somewhere …
Sweet dreams all.
as you can see below, I’m outta here too. But not until after we had a doggie drama a bit earlier… C invited Andy up on the bed and he promptly peed on it! Not sure what that was all about (save a dominance kinda thing) but he didn’t score happy points from us on that! Now that sheets are changed, I can retire as well.
Not so sure about this new dog, but we’ll see…
See you on dada’s flip side, hon… stay cool and plant a hibiscus!
The wet spot … nooooooooooooo! Take care IVG and I hope it all works out for ya … 🙂
Another great educational evening!
So good night to you all; olivia, and IVG, dada, knucklehead, enessay, et al…
so I’m heading out for the night, but keeping fond memories of the evening. With any luck, there will be a new post on the b-thingie sometime tomorrow night, chronicling the “surprise” we had in the front beds …
Take care all, Olivia, NDD, dada the lurker (?) and Knuckelhead the grand… see you all soon, I hope!
