We’re fans of Tecnu, but you really need to use it right after you’ve been exposed (although some folks claim that keeps it from spreading even after you got it).
I think it’s more work avoidance. I was going to take the dogs for a walk but it suddenly got black outside so looks like I might be running out of excuses to get started.
Good morning all. Have a great vacation, Andi. It’s raining here in the Valley but is much more comfortable. I’m thinking about taking friday off, get an early start on my lawn mowing. But then again I should probably just follow FM’s good example.
Good morning/afternoon/evening all!
Vacation is over, but it looks like no need to go to work today;
As of 11 p.m., the area between 40th Street and 43th Street and between Third and Vanderbilt Avenues remained closed off. New York City Office of Emergency Management is asking everyone to stay away from the so-called “Frozen Zone,” and residents who live within the zone are being asked to remain in their buildings as officials test for possible asbestos in the air.
Well, due to the jet lag, I was up early and kind of eager to get in to see what’s cooking after 3.5 weeks away.
It’s no big sacrifice, though, to shift gears back to what it has been lately…
It’s best to ease back into real life. Family Man would tell you to just round it up to 4 weeks off and then take another couple of naps before heading back to work next Monday.
It’s a full time job just trying to stay cool. Today’s projected high is 98! My youngest son is leaving next week for a 22 day backpacking trip to Montana and we’re trying to get all the supplies he needs which is sort of a pain in the neck, but a happy one. I’m hoping this will be a life-changing trip for him.
Nope, they bring all of their supplies with them and eat lightly. Of course, Ben is a big fan of Man vs. Wild on the Disc. Channel, so he thinks he’s going to spear a wild salmon, break its spine with a quick snap and then eat it raw. He draws the line at eating maggots, though.
Nope. Today it looks like a water leak in the front yard, so I’ll be outside digging down to that and trying to repair it. I’m sure after working all day on it, I’ll come to the conclusion that it’s beyond me how to repair it, and then I’ll call someone in. As lazy as I am, you do think I would skip the first part though. 🙂
We had a “trail lunch” during the parent weekend at the end of CBtE’s trip…Lots of trail mix-y stuff and peanut butter and jelly and crckers. Somebody made cookies and put them in the re-supply soemwhere in the middle of the trip, and the boys were still talking about that (and a carrot cake clif bar they all split) at the end.
CBtE is still talking about the thhings tht happenedd on his backpacking trip. Yesterday we were visitng our older neighbor (who lets us use his pool when it’s so blistering hot), and he even remebered to bring the laptop along for show-and-tell. 🙂
Hey CG – yep, he’s doing Outward Bound. I have no doubt he can handle the physical aspects – I’m just worried about him changing planes and having to get to and from the hotel he has to stay in alone the night prior to departing from Butte. He’s a little scatterbrained….ADD.
I remember worrying about the same thing – had butterflies in the stomach just thinking about it beforehand. Even with the ADD, I’m sure he’ll do fine, and it will be a great experience for him. I made CBtE call me between planes, though.
Be ready to be shocked by how physically fit he is when he gets back, though. 🙂
Yes, went in yesterday as well (briefly) – though our office is within the ‘frozen zone’, we have access from one side of the building. All the streets around look like trenches with all the digging.
Good morning all!
Good morning all. Gotta run, see ya later.
< crickets >
taken hidden photos again, I see.
trying to earn extra cash to pay for gas
hola manny!…was hoping you’d use that again so l could steal it for the friday news dump…always good to have a fall back position…heh…:{)
lTMF’sA
you’re so punny, dada. that’s why i like ya 🙂
Hiya Manny, Wish that I could see the photo but my evil overlords are blocking it (but not the text of this thread).
damn. well, hopefully a chuckle will still be able to rise out of you when you get home.
any luck with the poison ivy?
(and makes the new septic field look pretty too)
What is that strange color?
the grass is especially greener over the brand new septic field. 🙂
I miss Erma Bombeck (for those of you who missed the reference Erma wrote a book called “The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank”).
I think my favorite line was when she said that one of her kids was a poster child for Zero Population Growth.
Evening.
Still scratchin’.
We’re fans of Tecnu, but you really need to use it right after you’ve been exposed (although some folks claim that keeps it from spreading even after you got it).
Didn’t include sleeping late but who cares.
When do you head out?
Not till late afternoon but we haven’t started getting ready yet so we’ve got a bunch to do.
Waiting til the last minute is part of the fun.
Morning, everyone. I guess FM finally got to sleep and stayed there.
I think it’s more work avoidance. I was going to take the dogs for a walk but it suddenly got black outside so looks like I might be running out of excuses to get started.
We finally had a gorgeous, soaking rain complete with thunder and lightning for a good 3 or 4 hours last night. Yay.
Have a fun trip!
I guess I’d better go get busy.
See you (yay!) when I get back.
Have fun!
Good morning all. Have a great vacation, Andi. It’s raining here in the Valley but is much more comfortable. I’m thinking about taking friday off, get an early start on my lawn mowing. But then again I should probably just follow FM’s good example.
In which Second Nature misses Andi and pretends to be her.
Good morning, SN!
How are you today?
I’m pretty good. Still waking up, not looking forward to the heat (or my electric bill later this month).
How about you? Been sleeping okay?
Yep a good bit of sleep actually. Our electric bill was sky high last month and I don’t see it getting better until about Oct.
Good morning/afternoon/evening all!
Vacation is over, but it looks like no need to go to work today;
My office is right there.
Great minds think alike! 🙂
I can’t imagine how frightening it is every time there is an explosion in NYC. But an extra day off is not such a bad result…
Well, with some ‘luck’ the frozen zone will remain for a few days…
What are you up to these days?
It’s a full time job just trying to stay cool. Today’s projected high is 98! My youngest son is leaving next week for a 22 day backpacking trip to Montana and we’re trying to get all the supplies he needs which is sort of a pain in the neck, but a happy one. Ouchh, 98!
‘Cool’ NY has forecast of 86.
But your son is in for quite an adventure. Twenty-two days; they have food/supply depots along their trek?
Good morning ask and SN.
We’re only supposed to get to 95 today. Don’t ya love it when it cools down to the mid-90’s.
Just pack him a few pimento cheese sandwiches. That’ll get him through. 🙂
If it came down to a choice between pimento cheese sandwiches and maggots he’d pick the maggots.
Morning, FM. Nice to see you awake.
I guess maggots would be ok just as long as you could slap them between two pieces of bread with miracle whip. 😉
Nice to be awake, but don’t know for how long.
We better change the subject before we drive everyone away. Are you planning to take advantage of the cooler weather to do the yardwork?
Nope. Today it looks like a water leak in the front yard, so I’ll be outside digging down to that and trying to repair it. I’m sure after working all day on it, I’ll come to the conclusion that it’s beyond me how to repair it, and then I’ll call someone in. That’s so exciting!

The kid is already nothing but wiry muscle and bone….I can’t imagine him being any stronger (or skinnier!)
It’s steamy here too. Yesterday, it rained and cooled down, and there was steam rising off the ground afterward. Really freaky looking.
I hope you get a couple days to ease back in and adjust to the time change.
Gotta go. I’ve got relatives leaving this morning and I want to be sure to help them out the door. 🙂
Everybody have a good day in the pond.
Hi froggies. T-storms later here in the Valley but very hazy now. I’m ready for the rain to stop.
Good morning/afternoon/evening all.
Andi should be off enjoying her vacation today. I know ask just got back from his. Who else is getting ready for a vacation?
Good morning, FM!
Are you having one?
Hi ask.
I’m having a good morning so far, and as far as vacation goes, I’m always on one. 🙂
Are you headed back to work today?
Yes, went in yesterday as well (briefly) – though our office is within the ‘frozen zone’, we have access from one side of the building. All the streets around look like trenches with all the digging.
Yeah from what I saw on the news, it looked pretty torn up. Hope you’re staying home today and taking a three day weekend.
I’ll go in, but will make it a short day to allow for some slacking this afternoon.
Good for you.
Good morning, ask and FM!
Another cloudy-looking morning here.
Good morning CG.
Another hot day here. If we’re lucky we might get a little rain late this afternoon.
Good morning ask and FM. Sorry you have to work, ask, especially on Friday. Slackin’, FM?
Here in the Valley we’re ready for a beautiful day after the storms of yesterday. Unfortunately, I’m wqorking as well.
Thanks, boran!
Looks like a great weekend in our neck of the woods – any big plans?
Hi ask! I was thinking about going out to the blues festival in Super’s neck of the woods. I’m not sure yet though. How about you?
Hiya Boran.
I think I’m going to see if I can sleep for 48 hours this weekend. I’ve been training the last couple of day for it, so I’m going for a record. 🙂
A rigorous training regimen no doubt. Good luck, FM.
I have to deal with some personal issues, so this year I’ll miss it.
If you go, say hi to super from me and curly – I believe he’ll be there.
Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone.
We had a hard thunderstorm come through yesterday afternoon. Tree limbs ever where.
How is everyone today?
Good morning, FM!
Up all night, had a long morning nap.
Beautiful weekend ahead!
Good morning ask.
I hope being up all night was an enjoyable thing. I think it’s supposed to cool off here this weekend, so it’s looking to be a nice weekend.
It wasn’t too bad (though, involuntary).
Just had a coffee fix – need to do some work.
I need another coffee fix. I’m fighting off a nap right now.
Have a good weekend.

A baby buffalo is attacked by a pride of lions, a couple of crocs, and then is saved by the adult buffalo.
Hope everyone is having a good Saturday.
Hi Olivia.
I saw that and I was happy for the baby.
How’s your w/e going?
W/e is going well … went out for a bit. It’s very nice here today w/ blue skies.
Hope you’re having a relaxing w/e … 🙂
Good morning all
It appears it will be a nice day here today. Wonder if Andi is having fun?
Good morning/afternoon, FM!
What’s up today?
curly and I are preparing for picnic in the park.
Hi ask.
I’m just puttering around the house and getting brunch started here.
Hope you and curly have a good picnic.
Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone.
Good morning, FM!
A cool and rainy morning in NY.
It’s clear and will be hot here again.
How was the picnic yesterday?
Oh, we had a great afternoon in the park.
A strange feeling to plan weekends without the asklets around.
If you are like me, it was great to have the kids around, but it was also nice for a little alone time.
So is everything fixed and are you back to work today?
Most of the streets have re-opened and it is pretty much business as usual.
Guess I have to get ready…
Have a good day ask. I’ll try to squeeze in an extra nap just for you. 🙂
Good morning all. Rain here in the Valley. I’ll avoid having to do my walk today. I’m okay with that after a very hectic weekend.
Hiya Boran.
Hope you get some let up from that rain soon.
Thanks, FM. Has it been wetter by you?
